I used them few months ago for a short distance move -just 3 miles and very basic furniture. They changed my price quote 1 night before and demanded more money. As I had to move that day coz my lease was ending and it was too late to find another mover on such short notice, I was forced to use them. Their employees were high on drugs when they came to my place!! They were rude and so stoned that they damaged my walls and furniture. They took 3hrs longer than needed on purpose so I had to pay way more than I should’ve. Their customer service is a joke and everyone was rude to me! PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND A BETTER COMPANY FOR YOUR MOVE coz this one is a scam!

Move size: Studio Service cost: $770

Used Broker, American Moving and Storage in Allendale, NJ.  Was our 3rd move in 3 years.  1st move was $8000, 2nd move was $6000.  I also recommended a friend, whose move was $7000.  This recent move was across town. They grossly underestimated the quote, so the invoice was substantially higher than quoted.  Invioce included fees that were not quoted.  We were going to get a POD to store  half our stuff, was talked into having them store it.  What a mistake.  Was told they need 1 week notice to deliver the stored items.  Called, and was advised it would be 2 weeks.  When I offered to pick up the stuff myself, they said I could for $600 more.  They said it would cost $140/month to store.  Later came back with fees over $180 that were never quoted. They now  have my stuff held as randsom as we dispute the fees on the invoices that weren't charged.  I was yelled at on the phone by the customer services staff, left multiple messages that haven't been returned, etc.

Service cost: $1500

Long story short this company was playing major games with the time it took to complete the job and was attempting to charge an extra hour on top or the 3 hour minimum. Only had used 2.5 hours and argued well over a half hour about finishing the work under the 3 hours. At the end when it was all agreed that I was under the 3 hours the driver called in for me to finish paying and told them to charge 3.5 hours. Had to argue AGAIN to get charged correctly. make sure to carefully document the time used to make sure you aren’t arguing with these people. The call center was very friendly and fixed the issue. If they hadn’t tried scamming me into paying more I would have absolutely given 5 stars. The booking process was very smooth and they made sure all my questions where answered before the move. Sadly fell short. It’s a shame if the driver had been honest this place would have been absolutely amazing if I had another driver I feel I would have had a better experience.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $400

I was very pleased on how American Movers handled my move and more so the three men that showed up. These men took into consideration my concerns and took great care within reason to ensure no damage was done to my furniture and other items. And I am glad I have none to report!

Also I should mentioned the 16 plus 1 cubic boxes of books. I've moved stuff in the past and realized how little I know about moving. These guys were like machines that just kept on going. They also moved an encyclopedia for me which is pretty heavy, I honestly thought they would refuse and I wouldn't blame them.

When we reached the new place they actually took the time to assist with the best possible layout for the bedroom furniture.

I was also very impressed with the one mover who is in college and now forced to take online courses using his extra time to make money. I have to say I was inspired by that as most kids today seem to think they just have to play video games.
